We are pleased to be able to welcome students back through our library doors starting from tomorrow. Classes from grade 5-10 will visit the library once a week.

As a part of matching our readers with text on the Lexile scale, each student’s last MAP reading measure that had been recorded will be considered which describes a student’s reading ability. For new students we will use the map entrance assessment reading levels. Having said that; knowing the Lexile measure of a book and the Lexile measure of a student’s reading ability can help identify reading materials at the right level of challenge. It’s a good place to start, with reading recommendation expertise from the librarian and the knowledge of each student. Students will be moved above or below the reading level based on their next MAP assessment scheduled in October. This allows our school to properly measure a child’s reading level multiple times a year to match the students with the books perfectly suited for them.

As we are a Follett destiny library each student will be provided with credentials to access the digital school library.

There are various library events and reading competitions lined up for this year which will be communicated in due course. However, most importantly together we need to make sure that your child reads at home every single day and perhaps inculcate it as a habit of enjoyment in their leisure time.

If you have any question related to your child reading and improvement, please feel free to contact the MS/HS librarian at afahim@debakeyatqatar.org.
