Two DeBakey teams participated in a local competition in Qatar, First Tech Challenge (FTC), that included up to 20 teams. DeBakey walked home with five awards, with the top award, the “Inspire Award” given to Team Sabah, led by Hamza Al Halabi. The team that receives this award is a strong ambassador for FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotic competition, and a role model.
Team “Elektra”, led by Maryam Al Mansoori was awarded “BEST THINK AWARD” for their clear understanding of the engineering design process including underlying science, mathematics, and game strategies. The FTC is a competition with collaboration between Texas A&M University and Qatar National Library.
Both Teams were awarded Second Place in the obstacle Race, and the Debakey Mentors received the “Outstanding Mentor Award”. The FTC experience has provided students with invaluable experience in robotics, engineering, teamwork, and innovation as well the chance to represent Qatar in the 2023 World Championship – FIRST Tech Challenge in Houston Texas.
