More Than 100 DeBakey Students on Honor Roll for Cycle 2

Although blended learning has presented some challenges, DeBakey students have excelled in academics in cycle 2. With a total of 105 students on Honor Roll from grades 5 through 12, it is clear that online learning has not hindered student learning.

The grade with the most students on Honor Roll in the whole school is DeBakey’s seniors, racking in 34 honor students, with 8 students receiving high achievement awards.

More notable is that all 61 senior students received an award, either for their academic achievement or for their exemplary behavior.

“Our students are amazing,” said Mr. Umair Farooq, Assistant principle at DeBakey. “Each one of you in the senior class is a true leader as you inspired everyone in DeBakey with your exceptional overall performances that includes one-third of your class with Cumulative GPA of 4.0 or more, and two-third of you with a GPA of 3.5 or more, as well as high scores in SAT, honor roll awards, high achievement awards, and DeBakey citizenship awards.”

DeBakey students are nominated for a citizenship award by their teachers which focuses on their behavior in and out of class. The most received citizenship award were 44 students from grade 10. Followed by 32 students in grade 11, and 31 students in grade 12.

The teachers continue to serve students exceptionally to ensure they persevere in their academic and behavioral excellence.

Mr. Farooq shared one of his favorite quotes by the 6th U.S. president, John Quincy Adams with students: “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”
