Students Participate in Qatar Sustainability Week 2019

Several students of Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions – Qatar participated in the Qatar-wide festivities celebrating the established Qatar Sustainability Week organized by Qatar Green Building Council.

In 2019, the week was set from October 26th to November 2nd, and featured multiple corporate and open events mixed with private ones all over Qatar. Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions was set to have an awareness campaign event on the 27th October. However, the date was shifted to the week after.

The students participated with posters, campaign slogans, and tree planting in the courtyard. The activities were meant to involve the students’ creativity, understanding, and bring awareness to the issues of modern-day sustainability efforts.

Under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Qatar Green Building Council announced the 4th edition of Qatar Sustainability Week. The resounding success of Qatar Sustainability Week in 2018 attracted more than 30,000 members of the public attending over 220 events held across three cities in Qatar.

This week-long initiative, which hosts numerous sustainability activities, events and campaigns across the country, aims to further engage the community in a wide range of sustainability-oriented activities. This initiative plays a crucial role in raising awareness among the wider community, while showcasing the progress Qatar has made in the areas of sustainability and green buildings.

According to the Qatar Green Building Council, the week serves as a unique platform to promote the nation’s sustainability vision as well as community engagement with relevant stakeholders under an overarching umbrella to achieve the nation’s sustainable development goals.
So, we are honored to have had the privilege to participate in such initiatives to allow our students to grow and learn about what the country is doing for their future and how they can contribute to the change as well.
