TEACHING AND LEARNING COUNCIL

Purpose

The purpose of the Teaching and Learning Council is to support, advise, and assist in the development and preservation of the school’s college preparatory programs focused on science, health sciences, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics professions. The council also serves as a forum for the ongoing exchange of information between higher education institutions, businesses, industries, and DeBakey High School for Health Professions (DHSHP) in relation to updating, promoting, and assessing the development of the curricula offered at the school as well as exploring options and opportunities for providing experiential learning for students and employees in order to promote excellence in education.

Functions

  1. Evaluate each curriculum track to ensure it responds to the needs and requirements of higher education institutions, businesses, industries, and the community
  2. Advise, recommend, and assist in identifying the need for improvement of each curriculum track
  3. Assist in the quality assurance review process
  4. Advise and review each curriculum track in line with best practice standards
  5. Promote sponsorship of students through member organizations
  6. Advise on current and future employment opportunities, industry trends, and employer needs
  7. Assist in identifying guest speakers, rotations, field placement, and internship opportunities for DHSHP students and
  8. Assist with the development of partnerships as well as serve as liaison between DHSHP, higher education institutions, industry sectors, and the community.
